(Rockland County, NY) – The Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am League have named former Major League pitcher Les Lancaster as the team’s pitching coach for the 2019 season. Lancaster will team up on the Rockland bench with new manager Kevin Baez, who also performed in the majors with the New York Mets.

Currently a resident of Dothan, Alabama, Lancaster will continue a career of over 35 years in professional baseball. Originally drafted by the New York Yankees in 1981, the right-hander made his debut for the Chicago Cubs, for whom he pitched in five of his seven MLB seasons. Other stops included stints with the Detroit Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals, and he amassed a 41-28 career record with 22 saves, being used primarily from the bullpen.

After his final contest with St. Louis in 1993, Les continued pitching professionally at both the affiliated and independent levels for another eight seasons while touching off an impressive managerial career. In his 11 seasons at the helm of various teams – all in independent ball – Lancaster had eight seasons of .500 or better and posted an overall 567-504 record, for a .529 win percentage.

The Boulders open their All-Star Summer against the defending Can-Am champ Sussex County Miners on Thursday, May 16, 2019. The franchise will also host the 2019 All-Star Game between the Can-Am and Frontier leagues, with the Home Run Derby on July 9, followed by the game on July 10.
