Birk Named Can-Am Batter of the Week

Batted .556 as Boulders Went 6-1

Thornhill, Ontario — Rockland Boulders 2B Ryne Birk has been named the Can-Am League’s Batter of the Week for the week of May 27-June 2, as selected by PointStreak, the league’s official statistician.

In seven games, Birk hit a sizzling .556 (15-for-27) with four doubles, one triple, one home run and seven RBI as the Boulders went 6-1 on the week to move into third place.

The Parkersburg, W.Va., native had at least one hit in every game during the week, highlighted by:

  • A 4-for-5 performance in a 4-3 win over Ottawa on May 28;
  • A 3-for-3, two-RBI night in a 7-3 victory over Quebec on May 31 in which the 24-year-old was a single short of the cycle;
  • Another 3-hit day on June 2, driving in three runs in a 13-5 win over Quebec.

Currently, Birk is tied with teammate C Adam Ehrlich for the league lead with a .409 batting average, leads the league with a .682 slugging percentage, and is third with a .480 on-base percentage.

Birk is in his first season in independent baseball. Prior to Rockland, he spent three seasons in the Houston Astros organization, reaching as high as Double-A. Birk was a 13th-round choice by the Astros in the 2016 draft out of Texas A&M University.
