In the Boulders' first home game following the All-Star Break, Rockland (25-30) scored five runs in the first inning against Sussex County (34-18), eventually defeating the first-place Miners 6-2 on Friday night.

After Sussex County put up a two-spot in the top of the first inning, the Boulders responded quickly in the bottom half of the frame. Ryne Birk launched a leadoff home run past the right field porch, Adam Ehrlich plated two runners with a double, Blake Grant-Parks drove in Ehrlich with a single, and Collin Ferguson recorded an RBI groundout to hand Rockland a 5-2 edge.

Following the slow start for Boulders starting pitcher Tommy Shirley, the left-hander settled in and retired the next 15 batters. Shirley tallied six strikeouts in six innings of work.

The Boulders and Miners return to the diamond on Saturday at Palisades Credit Union Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30, but gates open up at 4:30, as the Boulders celebrate Star Wars Night. The first 2,000 fans will receive souvenir lightsabers, and make sure to stay in the ballpark following the game for an intergalactic fireworks extravaganza.
