Boulders Move to Historic 8-2 on Homestand With Win Over Quebec

The Rockland Boulders (32-32) defeated the Quebec Capitales (25-38) by a final score of 6-5 in a dramatic, extra-inning finish punctuated by a walk-off single by Ryne Birk.

Rockland fell behind 3-0 in the third inning behind an RBI single from Quebec's T.J. White and a two-run double by Jesse Hodges. However, the Boulders got all three runs right back in the bottom of the fourth on one swing from Grant Heyman, who rocked his seventh home run of the season to tie the game at three. Quebec scored a run on a fielder's choice in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead; the Capitales pushed across an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout by Chris Shaw.

But in the bottom of the inning, with two on, two out and the Boulders down to their final strike, Heyman delivered once again with an RBI double to left-center field to bring in two runs and tie the game once more. However, the Boulders were unable to bring him home, as Chase Harris popped out to end the inning and send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, Robbie Gordon came on to throw a scoreless inning in spite of the inning starting with a runner on second. In the bottom half of the inning, Ryne Birk notched his third hit of the night to send home Harris – who celebrated his 28th birthday on Sunday – with the winning run.

With yet another dramatic victory, the Boulders move to 8-2 on the franchise's record-setting 11-game homestand. That homestand will conclude on Tuesday, with an 11 a.m. Camp Day matinee at Palisades Credit Union Park.
