As part of the New York Boulders’ Bould Decade celebrating the franchise’s first 10 years of play, fans will be voting to fill a position on our All-Decade team each week for eight successive weeks.
This week, the fourth week of voting, presents fans with the opportunity to select the team’s top first baseman from a field of five over the team’s initial decade of play. This week’s voting is sponsored by Gilligan’s Clam Bar and Grill of Pomona.
Fans can cast their vote for their top first baseman from Friday, May 1, through Thursday, May 7, by sliding to www.NYBoulders.com. The first baseman with the most votes will earn a spot on the All-Decade team.
The final results will be announced during a Podcast on the Boulders’ Facebook page on Friday, May 8, at 9:30 a.m., hosted by Seth Cantor, the voice of the Boulders and theVice-President of Business Development.
Altice cable television in Rockland County will also rebroadcast each week’s All-Decade team announcement the following Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. on channel 76, except for channel 77 in Ramapo and channel 15 in North Rockland.
Over the first three weeks of voting, fans have selected Marcus Nidiffer as the catcher, along with starting pitchers Richard Salazar and Bo Budkevics and closer Adrian Martin to the All-Decade team.
Here is a breakdown of the first basemen on this week’s ballot:
Ryan Scoma (2012): In his only season for the Boulders, Scoma batted .310 with 13 HRs and 59 RBI, along with an OPS of .850. A superb glove man, he committed only three errors in 602 chances at first base for a .995 fielding percentage.
Jerod Edmondson (2013-2014): A member of the 2014 Can-Am championship team, the lefty swinger was a model of consistency over his two seasons in Rockland, hitting a combined .288 and totaling 23 HRs and 139 RBI. Over an eight-year career in the Can-Am League, Edmondson accumulated 751 base hits, which ranked him first in league history at the time of his retirement in 2014. He has since been surpassed by Sebastian Boucher.
Charlie Law (2013-2015): Perhaps more known for his seven-inning no-hitter in August of 2013 – still the only no-hitter by a Boulders’ pitcher, Law swung a nasty bat in 2015 as the club’s regular first baseman, hitting .301 with 10 HRs, 58 RBI and an .822 Ops.
Mikael Mogues (2017-2018): The lefty slugger provided the franchise with one of its memorable moments when his home run on June 7, 2018 struck the Mercedes-Benz Star in centerfield, winning the use of a car for a lucky fan. Over two seasons, Mogues hit .214 with 16 HRs and 61 RBI.
Jared Schlehuber (2016): This righthanded slugger made an impact in his only season in Rockland, finishing with a .274 BA, hitting 15 HRs and knocking in 73 runs to go along with an .832 OPS.
