In the fifth week of voting to fill out the New York Boulders’ All-Decade team, fans selected Junior Arrojo as the franchise’s top shortstop, landing him a spot on the on the roster.

As part of the New York Boulders’ Bould Decade celebrating the franchise’s first 10 years of play, fans have been voting to fill one position on our All-Decade team each week for eight successive weeks.

Voting for the All-Decade shortstop, which concluded on Thursday, May 14 was sponsored by Beckerle Lumber of Orangburg and offered fans the opportunity to select one nominee from a list of five shortstops who excelled for the Boulders.

Arrojo (2014-2016) was a member of the 2014 Can-Am League championship team and, over three seasons, hit .313 while playing a steady shortstop. In 2015 and 2016, the 36 times he was hit by a pitch in each season set Can-Am League marks. He also swiped 43 bases in 2015 and 47 bases in 2016. Following the 2016 campaign, he signed a contract with the Miami Marlins’ organization.

Arrojo won the spot with an overwhelming 88% of the vote.

“This means a lot,” Arrojo said. “You look at some of the names on the list – Niddy (Marcus Nidiffer), Bo (Bo Budkevics), Sally (Richard Salazar) and Jerod Edmondson, those are the guys that paved the way for me.”

He added, “It is an honor to be named to the All-Decade team with those other guys.”

Other candidates for the shortstop position on the All-Decade team included Ray Stokes (2011), Cole Kraft (2011-2012), Steve Nyisztor (2014-2015) and J.C. Rodrigues (2018).

Arrojo joins catcher Marcus Nidiffer, starting pitchers Richard Salazar and Bo Budkevics, closer Adrian Martin and first baseman Jerod Edmondson as fan selections over the five weeks of voting.

Voting for the All-Decade team is continuing this week as fans have the opportunity to select a second baseman from a group of five nominees who excelled for the Boulders. The voting to select a second baseman is sponsored by Humdinger’s of Paramus, NJ with fans able to cast their ballot through Thursday, May 21, by sliding to www.NYBoulders.com
