BIG NAMES DOMINATE LIST OF OUTFIELD CANDIDATES

As part of the New York Boulders’ Bould Decade celebrating the franchise’s first 10 years of play, fans have been voting to fill a position on our All-Decade team each week for eight successive weeks.

The eighth and final week of voting gives fans the opportunity to select the team’s best outfield. Fans will vote for a centerfielder from a candidate list of five, as well as two corner outfielders from a roster of nine. This week’s voting is sponsored by 16 Handles of New City, NY.

Fans can cast their votes from Friday, May 29, through Thursday, June 4, by sliding to www.NYBoulders.com. The centerfielder with the most votes will earn a spot on the All-Decade team, as well as the top two corner outfield vote-getters.

The final results will be announced during a Podcast on the Boulders’ Facebook page on Friday, June 5, at 10:30 a.m., hosted by Seth Cantor, the voice of the Boulders and theVice-President of Business Development.

Altice cable television in Rockland County will also rebroadcast each week’s All-Decade team announcement the following Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. on channel 76, except for channel 77 in Ramapo and channel 15 in North Rockland.

Over the first seven weeks of voting, fans have selected Marcus Nidiffer as the catcher, along with starting pitchers Richard Salazar and Bo Budkevics, closer Adrian Martin, first baseman Jerod Edmondson, shortstop Junior Arrojo, second baseman Matt Nandin and third baseman Ryan Mollica to the All-Decade team.

Here is a breakdown of the centerfielders on this week’s ballot:

Chris Valencia (2012): In his single season in Rockland, Valencia hit .256 with three home runs, 40 RBI and 58 runs scored.

Donnie Webb (2013): A switch-hitter, Webb hit a productive .297 with 10 home runs, 46 RBI, 73 runs scores and an .827 OPS.

Antone DeJesus (2014): The centerfielder for the 2014 Can-Am League champions, this lefty swinger batted .308 with seven home runs, 43 RBI and 70 runs scored to go along with an .840 OPS and .390 on-base average.

Jared McDonald (2015-2018): Over three-plus seasons, McDonald batted .299 for the Boulders with his best year coming in 2015 when he hit. 337 with 84 runs scored, 60 RBI, eight home runs, an .867 OPS and a .444 on-base average. Spanning the 2015 and 2016 campaigns, McDonald reached base successfully in 75 consecutive games, a professional baseball record. 

Chase Harris (2019): In his lone yar with the Boulders, Harris batted .218 with five home runs and 27 RBI along with 26 stolen bases.

And the corner outfielders to choose from this week:

Tommy Giles (2011): In only 36 games, Giles hit .272 with five home runs, 27 RBI and 19 runs scored.

Norm Hutchins (2011-2012): The local from Lincoln High School in Yonkers, in 2011, Hutchins batted .295 with seven home runs, 37 RBI, 36 runs scored and an OPS of .806. He appeared in just 15 games in 2012.

Keith Brachold (2012): The lefty took advantage of the rightfield short porch to blast 29 home runs in his lone season in Rockland while hitting .259 with 84 RBI and 80 runs scored, along with an .877 OPS and a .538 slugging percentage.

Jon Smith (2012, 2017): The lefthanded power-hitter played a combined 92 games over his two years in Rockland, hitting 22 home runs and knocking in 63 runs, batting .266 in 2012 and .327 in 2017. An excellent outfielder, Smith committed just one error in 124 chances over those two seasons.

Stephen Cardullo (2013-2015): In three years with the Boulders, Cardullo hit .299, with his best season coming in 2015 when he hit .331 with nine home runs, 76 runs scored and 76 RBI. In 2015, he also boasted a .928 OPS and a .410 on-base average – all of that adding up to signing a contract that off-season with the Colorado Rockies’ organization.

Joe Maloney (2014-2015, 2017): Over three years in Rockland, Maloney hit .298, but it was his last season, 2017, after returning from a year in the Minnesota Twins’ organization, that was his best, seeing him hit  a Cam-Am League record 35 home runs while batting .282 with 101 RBI and 84 runs scored and a .997 OPS. After the 2017 season, Maloney was recognized by Baseball America as its Independent Leagues Player of the Year.

Ryan Stovall (2014-2015): In his one full season, 2014, in Rockland, Stovall hit .312 with 17 home runs, 72 RBI, 63 runs scored and an OPS of .878. He returned late in the 2015 season and appeared in seven games.

Mike Montville (2016-2018): During his three-year tenure with the Boulders, Montville batted .235, but hit 45 home runs and averaged 56 RBI. An outstanding defensive player, he committed only five errors in 497 chances, a .990 fielding percentage.

Kevin Krause (2018): A solid all-around player, Krause, in his one season in Rockland, hit .331 with 10 home runs, 49 RBI and 68 runs scored to go along with a .399 on-base average and .903 OPS. In addition to his 61 games in the outfield, Krause appeared in 30 more as a catcher.
