The New Jersey Jackals scored four runs in the top of the seventh to go ahead of the New York Boulders, and would hang on to win 7-4, taking three out of four in their weekend series.

Boulders reliever A.J. Candelario walked the leadoff batter Santiago Chirino and allowed a single to Russ Olive, before Alfredo Marte broke the 3-3 tie with a RBI single on a questionably fair ball hit down the third base line. Boulders manager T.J. Stanton was not happy with the call and was ejected for the second straight game shortly after expressing his distaste for the umpire's decision.

Candelario was replaced by James Mulry who gave up three more runs on doubles by Stanley Espinal and T.J. Ward to put the Jackals up 7-3.

The Jackals scored first on a two-out RBI single by Jason Agresti in the top of the second, but the Boulders quickly responded. Ray Hernandez led off the bottom of the inning with a home run to left field to tie the game at 1-1.

New Jersey added more runs in the third on an RBI single by Marte, and a walk by Espinal with the bases loaded, to go ahead 3-1. Again though, the Boulders answered, tying the game at 3-3 on a two-out single by Hernandez.

Both bullpens kept the game scoreless until Marte’s single in the seventh that broke the tie. Jackals reliever Jack Weinberger picked up the win, allowing just one hit and three walks over three shutout innings, and now through 10 1/3 innings has not allowed a run on the year.

The Boulders struggled against the righty Marte, who reached base in all five of his plate appearances, with three singles and two walks.

Herandez homered again in the bottom of the eighth, finishing the day 3-4 with 3 RBIs, but it was ultimately not enough to propel the Boulders who’ve now dropped seven of their last nine.

The Boulders will look to get back on track against the Sussex County Miners on Tuesday as they continue their homestand.
