The Boulders seven run first inning would prove to be too much for Quebec to overcome, as New York cruised to a 12-5 win to open a three game set.

After Quebec scored on a sacrifice fly by Jesse Hodges in the top of the first, the Boulders responded with an onslaught. Jack Sundberg walked to lead off the inning, and would end up being the first of seven straight batters to reach base.

Tucker Nathans brought in the first two runs on a single to bring the Boulders ahead 2-1, a lead they would never relinquish. After Ryan Ramiz’s single that squeaked through the infield, Gian Martellini delivered the exclamation point, a grand slam, to put New York ahead 7-1. It was Martellini’s second grand slam, and third home run overall since arriving from Schaumburg in a trade earlier this month.

The Boulders got five solid innings out of starter Orsen Josephina who picked up his first win of the year. Josephina gave up just two runs on four hits and four walks, while striking out two.

Quebec threatened in the top of the seventh after an RBI double by Connor Panas and a single by Ruben Castro, but Boulder's reliever A.J. Candelario worked out of the jam to keep the damage at just two runs.

New York silenced any hopes of a Quebec comeback with a three run bottom of the seventh, highlighted by Ray Herandez’s team-leading seventh home run of the season, to extend the lead to 12-4.

The Boulders now sit just a game back of first place behind Quebec, and will host them again tomorrow as they look to draw even.
