Kevonte Micthell’s walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth was the difference as the Boulders defeated Equipe Quebec 4-3. The win pushed the boulders past Quebec and into sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division.

Mitchell was 0 for 4 on the day prior to the walkoff, but came up big when it mattered, driving in Phil Capra for the win.

Quebec scored first after leadoff batter L.P. Pelletier was hit by a pitch, and eventually brought home after a throwing error to first base by Boulders’ catcher Gian Martellini.

The road team doubled their lead in the top of the 3rd on a homerun by Pelletier to left field, the first hit that Boulders’ starter Andy Hammond allowed on the day.

The Boulders responded though with a two-run bottom of the fourth to tie the game up. Tucker Nathans drove in the first run on a double off of Quebec starter Codie Paiva, and then was brought home two batters later on a single by Ryan Ramiz.

Quebec scored again in the top of the fifth on an RBI-single by David Glaude, but were quickly matched in the bottom of the frame on a single by Zach Kirtley which evened things up at 3-3. Kirtley finished the day with three hits, a walk, and a run in addition to the RBI.

Both managers turned the game over to their bullpens after the fifth, with neither starter factoring into the decision.

The Boulders threatened in the bottom of eighth after Kirtley and Nathans both walked with no outs, but Quebec relievers Marshall Shill and Frank Moscatiello struck out the next three batters to keep the score level.

The bullpen could not hold on forever though, with Horvath picking up the loss after allowing the walkoff.

It will be a quick turnaround for both teams as they play again tomorrow morning at 11 for the second of this three game series.
