Quebec Scores 13, Takes 2 out of 3 Against Boulders 

Offense was on display as Equipe Quebec defeated the New York Boulders 13-9 on Thursday night at Palisades Credit Union Park. Six of Quebec’s nine runs came in the top of the fifth, which was highlighted by Jeffry Parra’s three-run home run, which tied the game at 6-6. Jonathan Lacroix’s two-run triple later in the inning gave Quebec an 8-6 lead that they never gave up. 

Parra and Lacroix along with Connor Panas all finished the game with four RBIs for Quebec. 

The road team took a first inning lead for the third straight game against New York on Panas’ three-run home run. The homer occurred two batters after David Glaude reached on a mishandled ground ball by Boulder’s first baseman Marcus Mastrobuoni, which would have been the third out of the inning. 

The Boulders got one back in the bottom of the first though, when Jack Sundberg led off with a single and was quickly brought home on a double by Zach Kirtley to deep left field.

New York rallied in the bottom of the fourth, tying the game on a two-run home run by Mastrobuoni, and took the lead when Phil Caulfield, the next batter, homered as well. For Mastrobuoni it was his first hit since May 29th after a long stint on the dislabled list, while for Caulfield it was his first home run since joining the team. 

Ryan Ramiz’s two-run double later in the inning put the Boulders ahead 6-3, a lead they quickly relinquished. 

Boulders starter Ryan Munoz settled in for a few innings before allowing the first four runs of the fifth. Munoz exited the game with six earned runs on seven hits and two walks, to go along with his three strikeouts. He took the loss as his record fell to 0-2. 

New York entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 10-6, and got within a run after Ray Hernandez’s two-run homer and Sundberg’s sacrifice fly, but stranded the tying run on second after Kirtley grounded into a double play. Hernandez continues to show off his power, now with 12 home runs on the year. 

Quebec didn’t give the Boulders another chance, adding their final insurance runs in the top of the eighth. The team finished with 16 hits, led by Nathan Etheridge with three of his own. 

Pablo Arevalo picked up the win, improving to 1-1 on the year. 

The Boulders will try to right the ship tomorrow night when they host Sussex County.
