Conor Panas hit five consecutive home runs in the home run derby to lead Equipe Quebec to a win over the New York Boulders on Saturday night at Palisades Credit Union Park. The game finished tied at six after 10 innings.

L.P. Pelletier started the game off with a single for Quebec, then stole second and third base to put himself in scoring position. Jeffrey Parra knocked him in on a scorching line drive to left field, his 43rd RBI of the season, allowing Quebec to jump out to a quick 1-0.

After three up and three down in their first turn at the plate, the Boulders’ bats woke up in the second inning. The first four runners all reached base, including three singles in a row by Marcus Mastrobuoni, Ray Hernandez, Gian Martellini. With the bases loaded and the score tied at one, Jack Sundberg ripped a double over the left fielder’s head, his first of two hits in the game, to give the Boulders a 3-1 lead. Kevonte Mitchell followed it up with a two-RBI hit of his own, a bloop single to right, doubling the Boulder advantage to 5-1.

Quebec battled back in the top half of the third against Boulders’ starter Robby Rowland. An RBI single by David Glaude and a two-run blast by Parra shrunk their deficit to just one. However, in his first appearance in more than a week, Alex Mack threw 3.2 scoreless innings and struck out five to keep the Boulders in front.

The score remained at 5-4 until the top of the eighth, when a two-out single by Panas evened the game up. Zach Schneider came in for the ninth, setting Quebec down without too much trouble, and Marshall Shill matched him in the bottom of the inning to send the game to extras.

Raphael Gladu drove home Glaude during Quebec’s chance in the tenth inning, but excellent baserunning by Milton Smith Jr. tied the score at six on a walk by reliever Frank Moscatiello. With no one else scoring for the Boulders, the game would be decided by the first home run derby in PCU Park history.

In the derby, Riley Pittman connected on four of his eight swings, Gladu on one of his eight, and Panas on five of his six to outpace the Boulders, who managed just one homer on 16 swings. The Boulders will finish out their series against Quebec tomorrow at 5pm
