Rockland County, NY (August 10, 2021) – The New York Boulders got two-run home runs from Ryan Ramiz and Phil Capra and rallied for a 6-4 win over the Sussex County Miners on Tuesday at Palisades Credit Union Park.

Trailing 4-2 in their half of the sixth inning, New York struck for three runs against Sussex County starter Alexander Vargas. Zach Kirtley led off with a double, but still stood at second after Vargas retired Tucker Nathans and Kevonte Mitchell. Ray Hernandez then bounced a grounder to third that Miners' third baseman Juan Kelly threw away that allowed Kirtley to score and Hernandez to go to second.

Ryan Ramiz followed with a long two-run home run to right, his fifth of the year, that gave the Boulders a 5-4 advantage.

In the seventh, Phil Caulfield stole a run for the Boulders. The shortstop led off with a double off Miners' reliever Robert Klinchock. With Milton Smith, Jr. at the plate, Caulfield swiped third on the return throw to Klinchock and then raced home when the Sussex County pitcher threw wildly to third. The run gave the Boulders a 6-4 edge.

Sussex County threatened in the top of the eighth with a lead-off triple by Cito Culver. However, Dylan Smith, New York's third pitcher of the game, escaped without allowing a run by striking out Daniel Herrera and Trevin Esquerra and then retiring Martin Figueroa on a fly to deep right.

The Miners had scored twice in the fifth inning to snap a 2-2 tie. With one out, a Jackie Urbaez single was followed by a triple from Kelly that gave Sussex County a 3-2 lead. After Kaleo Johnson walked, Chuck Taylor brought Kelly home with the frame's second run with a single.

Taylor's hit, his second of three on the night, also ended New York starter Andy Hammond's night as Luke Burton came on in relief and recorded the stanza's final two outs.

Sussex County had grabbed a 1-0 second inning lead on an RBI single by Herrera. New York answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run by Phil Capra, the switch-hitting catcher's fifth of the year. The Miners, though, would tie it in the top of the fourth on an RBI double by Cito Culver.

Burton got the win for New York, improving to 2-1 on the season, while Zach Schneider pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his fourth save of the year.

Vargas took the loss for Sussex County and fell to 3-4 on the season.
