The Boulders scored six unanswered runs in the 7th and 8th innings to top the New Jersey Jackals 7-4 to get their first win of the series against the Jackals this weekend.

The Boulders took an early 1-0 lead against the New Jersey Jackals in the bottom of the 2nd inning after Kevonte Mitchell homered to left-center, recording his 8th home run of the season.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Jackals threatened with men on second and third, but defensive plays by Ray Hernandez and Mitchell helped retire the side.

However, the Jackals tacked on two runs in the top of the 5th inning to take a 2-1 lead. After Dalton Combs walked, Justin Wylie hit a deep ball to center field which Jack Sundberg couldn’t handle, scoring in Combs. Josh Rehwaldt followed with an infield single, scoring in Wylie to put the Jackals on top.

The Jackals extended their lead to 4-1 in the top of the 7th. Justin Wylie tripled to right, knocking in Santiago Chirino who reached base on a single earlier in the inning.

It didn’t take long for the Boulders to answer. With one out, Marcus Mastrobuoni walked. Two batters later, Phil Caulfield went deep over the short porch in right field for his second home run of the season, cutting the lead to 4-3. The Boulders managed to get two more runners on base but couldn’t capitalize.

The Boulders carried the momentum into the 8th inning. Tucker Nathans led off the inning with a hit by pitch. Ryan Ramiz and Hernandez both walked to load the bases. Phil Caulfield was then hit by a pitch, scoring in Nathans from third to tie the game 4-4. Capra then walked, keeping the bases loaded while taking the lead 5-4.

Jack Sundberg ripped a single into center field, scoring in two runs to give the Boulders a 7-4 lead, which they kept for the rest of the game.

Zach Schneider was rewarded the win, giving up 1 hit and striking out a batter in his 1.1 innings pitched while improving his record to 3-0.

The Boulders look for another win tomorrow against the Jackals at Palisades Credit Union Park at 5 p.m.
