BOULDERS RALLY IN NIGHTCAP TO SWEEP TITANS

Rockland County, NY (July 1,2022) – The New York Boulders rallied to take the nightcap, 8-6, after taking the opener in sudden death, 9-8, to complete a sweep of their twinbill against the Ottawa Titans on Friday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

The sweep gave the Boulders a four-game winning streak.

The Boulders battled back from a four-run deficit in the second game to knot the contest at 6-6 on a Jake MacKenzie solo home run, his sixth of the year, in the bottom of the sixth; then moved ahead on a Giovanni Garbella two-run double.

David Vinsky followed MacKenzie's homer by reaching on an error by Ottawa third baseman A.J. Wright before a double by Austin Dennis put runners on second and third for Garbella, who knocked in his third and fourth runs of the nightcap with his double.

Ottawa had scored four times in the second inning of the nightcap to grab a 5-1 lead. Jason DiCochea, Jackie Urbaez, Rodrigo Orozco and Jake Sanford each had an RBI in the outburst.

However, the Boulders chipped away, finally closing to within a run at 6-5 after five innings.

Gian Martellini, Garbella and Gabriel Garcia each had an RBI for the Boulders, while Ottawa got a solo home run, his ninth of the season, from A.J. Wright.

Ryan Yakel picked up the win in relief for the Boulders, improving to 3-0 on the year; while Nelson Gonzalez was tagged with the loss for Ottawa, falling to 0-2 on the season.

Zach Schneider got the final out of the nightcap to register his second save of the year.

Meanwhile, the Boulders won the opener in sudden death, 9-8.

New York chose to play defense in the ninth inning and brought Zach Schneider in from the pen to start the frame with Tyrus Greene the Titans' runner on first base.

Schneider induced a double play groundball by A.J. Wright, then got Orozco to fly out to right field to end the game.

The Titans had tied the game with a four-run sixth inning. Urbaez' fifth home run of the season, a three-run shot brought Ottawa to within 8-7. Later in the frame, Sanford's RBI single kntted the game at 8-8.

Austin Dennis finished the night with two hits and four RBI for the Boulders, who also received two hits and an RBI apiece from Martellini and Garcia.

Chris Kwitzer and Max Smith each knocked in a run for New York.

Matt Feinstein and Orozco also hit home runs for Ottawa in the loss. For Feinstein, it was his second of the season, while it was the fifth of the year for Orozco.
