The Quebec Capitales rallied from a pair of four-run deficits and handed the visiting New York Boulders an 8-7 defeat on Saturday at Stade Canac in Quebec City.

After trailing by four runs – 5-1 and 6-2 – on two occasions earlier in the game, Quebec completed their comeback by scoring three times in the home half of the seventh inning to take an 8-6 lead.

The Capitales loaded the bases with no one out against New York reliever Zach Schneider, who then surrendered an RBI single to Kyle Crowl that leveled the game at 6-6. Ryan Munoz came on to replace Schneider and struck out Jonathan Lacroix, however Yordan Manduley followed with a slow grounder to short that the Boulders could only turn into a force out at second as Jeffry Parra scored the run that gave the home team the lead at 7-6.

Yoelkis Guibert then grounded a single through the right side that plated T.J. White, giving the Capitales an 8-6 advantage.

Munoz then retired Reece Yeargain on a fly ball to right field to end the inning.

New York would make things interesting after a Max Smith solo home run leading off the eighth inning against Capitales’ reliever Frank Moscatiello, the third Quebec pitcher of the night, made it an 8-7 game.

Moscatiello, though, retired the last three batters of the eighth inning, then gave way to Samuel Adames, who recorded his 11th save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth.

Moscatiello picked up the win to improve to 5-2 on the year, while Schneider took the loss and fell to 0-4 on the season.

The Boulders had moved out to a 5-1 lead through 2 ½ innings against Capitales’ starter Codie Paiva. In the first, New York loaded the bases with no one out and managed to push across a pair of runs – one on a force play by Francisco Del Valle and the second on an infield single by Giovanni Garbella.

Quebec got one back off New York starter Dan Wirchansky in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Kyle Crowl.

The Boulders, though, scored three times in the top of the third to grab their 5-1 advantage. Austin Dennis knocked in one run with a single, while Garbella and Chris Kwitzer had run-scoring groundouts.

A Jeffry Parra solo home run, his 14th of the year, brought Quebec back to within 5-2 in the home half of the third; but the Boulders responded with Gabriel Garcia’s third homer of the season in the top of the fourth.

Trailing 6-3, Quebec chipped away at their deficit, scoring twice in the fourth and once in the fifth against Wirchansky. A Jonathan Lacroix RBI double and a run-scoring single from Yoelkis Guibert brought the Capitales to within 6-4 in the fourth; then a solo home run, the third of the season, off the bat of Tristan Pompey in the fifth made it a 6-5 game.

Both starting pitchers struggled on this night. Paiva lasted only four innings, allowing six runs – three earned – on eight hits, while walking three and striking out four. Meanwhile, Wirchansky made it through six frames, surrendering five runs on nine hits, while walking two and striking out five.
