Zach Biermann snapped a seventh inning tie with a solo home run as the Evansville Otters bested the visiting New York Boulders, 3-1, on Tuesday at Bosse Field.

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, Biermann led off with a home run to right field, his 15th of the season, off New York starter July Jones to give the Otters the lead. Elijah McNamee followed with a double before George Callil bunted him over to third.

Zach Schneider relieved Sosa and induced a line out to short off the bat of Justin Felix for the inning’s second out. However, Schneider then unleashed a wild pitch that allowed McNamee to score to increase the Otters’ lead to 3-1.

Evansville got on the scoreboard first, scoring a run in the bottom of the fifth against Jones. With two outs, Justin Felix doubled to left ahead of an RBI single by Tyler Doanes.

New York threatened in the eighth. Ray Hernandez led off with walk. One out later, Max Smith singled. Augie Gallardo came on to relieve Otters’ starter Ryan O’Reilly and retired Jake MacKenzie and David Vinsky to keep the score at 3-1.

Logan Sawyer tossed a scoreless ninth inning for the Otters to record his 15th save of the season.

O’Reilly picked up the win for Evansville. He went 7 1/3 innings and surrendered one run on five hits while walking two and striking out six. The victory improved O’Reilly to 5-4 on the year.

The Boulders leveled the score at 1-1 in the top of the seventh. Also with two outs, Chris Kwitzer’s single was followed by an RBI double by Austin Dennis off O’Reilly.

Sosa was tagged with the loss despite giving the Boulders a quality start on the hill. He went 6 1/3 innings and allowed three runs on only six hits, while striking out five. Sosa did not walk a batter as he fell to 2-1 on the season.
