Brendan Feldmann tossed a complete game four-hit shutout to pace the host Gateway Grizzlies to a 6-0 win over the New York Boulders in the rubber game of their three-game weekend series at GCS Credit Union Ballpark in Sauget, IL, on Sunday.
Feldmann allowed a one out single in the fourth inning to Austin Dennis; then, in the seventh, also with one out, he surrendered a single to Gabriel Garcia which was followed by a double by Giovanni Garbella. However, the righthander escaped the seventh unscathed by striking out Chris Kwitzer and then inducing a pop out by Ray Hernandez.
The Boulders also picked up a ninth inning single from Francisco Del Valle.
Feldman walked one and set down a dozen Boulders on strikes as he improved to 5-6 on the year.
The Grizzlies scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, one run crossing on an error by Dennis at shortstop and the other on an RBI single from Kevin Krause.
It became 3-0 in the third thanks to a run-scoring single from Clint Freeman. The Grizzlies then plated three runs in the home half of the sixth to extend their lead to 6-0 as they received an RBI double by Andrew Penner and a two-run single from Zach Racusin.
Alex Mack started and took the loss for the Boulders. The righthander went 5 1/3 innings and surrendered four runs – three earned – on seven hits, while walking one and striking out five as he fell to 5-3 on the season.
