Rockland County, NY (August 5, 2022) – Alex Mack pitched one-hit ball through eight innings and the New York Boulders got three hits apiece from Jake MacKenzie and Giovanni Garbella and defeated the visiting Empire State Greys 12-0 on Friday at Clover Stadium in Pomona.

Mack did not allow a hit until  Will Decker lined a two-out single to right. Up until that point, the only baserunners allowed by Mack were a two-out walk to Jordan Holloman-Scott in the fourth and a lead-off walk to John Benevolent in the seventh, as well as Camden Williamson getting hit by a pitch in the fifth.

Mack needed 104 pitches, including 60 strikes, to finish his eight innings as he improved to 6-3 on the season. He struck out five in the victory.

Ryder Yakel pitched a perfect ninth inning to preserve the shutout for the Boulders.

The Boulders, in their 11-year history, have had just one no-hitter, that being a seven-inning gem by Charlie Law back on Aug. 23, 2013 against the New Jersey Jackals in the first game of a Can-Am League doubleheader.

The Boulders scored once in the second inning on a two-out double by Ray Hernandez, then made it 2-0 in the third frame when Chris Kwitzer grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed David Vinsky to score.

New York broke through in the fourth inning, chasing Greys' starter Andres Rodriguez and scoring six runs to extend their lead to 8-0. Included in the outburst was a two-run home run by Tucker Nathans, his 10th long ball of the season, and RBI singles from Vinsky and Kwitzer,

The Boulders tacked on two runs in the sixth via sacrifice flies by Austin Dennis and Gabriel Garcia; and added another in the seventh on  sacrifice fly off the bat of Dennis to make it an 11-0 game.

Rodriguez took the loss for the Greys, falling to 0-5 on the year.
