Chris Kwitzer knocked in two runs to pace the visiting New York Boulders to a 3-1 win over the New Jersey Jackals on Tuesday at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ.
With the Boulders leading 1-0 in the third inning, Kwitzer’s single drove in Max Smith; then, in the eighth, with New York clinging to a 2-1 lead, Kwitzer lined a single to right that scored Gabriel Garcia.
The Boulders opened the night’s scoring when Francisco Del Valle hit a solo home run in the second inning, his seventh of the year.
New Jersey, trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth, cut their deficit in half, scoring a run on an Austin Markman groundout.
Zach Schneider picked up the win in relief for the Boulders, improving to 2-4 on the year. The righthander came on to relieve starter Andy Hammond with two outs in the fourth and tossed 5 1/3 shutout innings of hitless ball, while walking one and striking out three.
Jorge Tavarez started and took the loss for the Jackals. He surrendered two runs on six hits, while walking three and striking out five as he fell to 8-4 on the season.
