Go-ahead run thrown out at home in 10th inning

OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE

The New York Boulders suffered a heartbreaking 5-4 road loss on the road against the Sussex County Miners in extra innings Friday.

The Boulders had the potential go-ahead run thrown out at home trying to tag on a fly out to center field in the 10th inning. The double play retired the side and set the table for Sussex County to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning. To add insult to injury, the Miners scored the game-winning run on a sacrifice fly.

The Boulders (14-10) compiled a four-run lead through four innings, but the Miners (15-8) managed to tie the game in the seventh on a two-run home run by Oraj Anu. David Vinsky had a two-run single for New York, while Thomas Walraven and Gabriel Garcia each added an RBI in the loss.

Ryan Munoz, who was activated from the injured list Friday afternoon, was terrific in his return to the mound. The left-hander allowed just one earned run and did not issue a walk over six full innings. Jose Alcantara had two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of relief.

Dylan Smith took the loss for New York, despite the game-winning run being unearned — his only run allowed in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Three of the four outs Smith recorded were strikeouts.

Sussex County and New York currently own the top two positions, respectively, in East Division standings of the Frontier League. The Boulders will look to bounce back Saturday night, when they continue their series against the Miners at 6:05 p.m. For information on tickets, value packs and more, visit the Boulders’ official website at www.nyboulders.com.
