After notching two walk-off wins in their last three games, the New York Boulders found themselves on the wrong end of the dramatic finish in a 4-3 loss to the Lake Erie Crushers on Friday.

New York put up a spirited performance, taking a lead into the eighth inning before a Lake Erie rally. Drue Galassi hit an RBI triple, then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth. Jarrod Watkins delivered a two-out walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Crushers a win in the opener of a three-game series.

New York’s Giovanni Garbella started the scoring with a solo home run in the fifth inning. Lake Erie responded an inning later, when Jack Harris launched a solo home run of his own to level the playing field.

The Boulders took the lead back in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Gabriel Garcia, who had the walk-off hit in Thursday’s thriller. New York added an insurance run on a bases-loaded walk by Thomas Walraven to score Garbella.

Despite the loss, Boulders starting pitcher Garrett Cooper was able to showcase his talent on the mound with an impressive performance. The right-hander struck out 10 batters over 6 2/3 innings, allowing just four hits and one earned run. Mitchell Senger took the loss for the Boulders. Lake Erie reliever Darrien Ragins earned the win for the Crushers.

The Boulders (23-18) play Lake Erie (18-25) again Saturday, with a first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. For information on Boulders tickets, value packs and more, visit the Boulders’ official website at www.nyboulders.com.
