POMONA, NY – The New York Boulders came up short against the Ottawa Titans on Wednesday, losing 17-9 in a game that totaled 35 hits.
The Boulders erupted for seven runs in the third inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from Giovanni Garbella, but it was only enough to give New York a one-run lead. Ottawa scored four runs in the first inning and two runs in the second to jump out to an early lead.
The Titans added three more runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, while the Boulders managed to muster just one run over than span. Ottawa capped its offensive onslaught with four runs in the eighth and one run in the ninth.
Jamey Smart drove in five runs for the Titans. Taylor Wright added a three-run home run. Jackie Urbaez also drove in three runs for Ottawa, which had eight batters record multiple hits.
Patrick Kivlehan went 4 for 5 with a home run and two RBI for the Boulders. David Vinsky, Chris Kwitzer, and Joe DeLuca added RBIs in the rally as well. Kwitzer had three hits on the night.
Boulders starter Garrett Cooper had his shortest outing of the season, allowing eight runs in four innings. Titans starter Zac Westcott tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits, which resulted in seven runs.
