OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE - GAME 2

POMONA, NY – The New York Boulders split two games against the Empire State Greys on Thursday. After dropping the first game, a continuation of Wednesday's  suspended game, 4-2, the Boulders bounced back to win the second game 2-0.

The first game was played to a full nine innings and the second was a seven-inning, shortened game.

Sporting a 2-0 lead at the resumption of the game, the Boulders bats were not able to continue their hot start from Wednesday. New York relinquished the lead in the eighth inning and was never able to gain it back. Chris Kwitzer’s two-run homer in the second inning Wednesday was the only damage New York did offensively.

Empire State’s Mizuki Akatsuka, a switch-handed pitcher, tossed 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the Greys. Juan Mateo pitched 2 2/3 innings and earned the win for Empire State. Zach Schneider took the loss for New York, giving up three runs in 1 2/3 innings of work.

Austin Dennis was the star in the second game of Thursday’s twin bill. Dennis accounted for three of the Boulders four hits, scored a run, and threw a tagging runner out at the plate from center field in the first inning for a double play. The other hit was off the bat of Tucker Nathans, who recorded his 100th hit of the season with a single down the left field line in the third inning.

Boulders starter Garrett Cooper tossed 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball in the seven-inning contest. Aaron Dona relieved Cooper with 1 2/3 innings to shut the door on the Greys and earn the save. Empire State starter Nick Trabacchi threw all six innings, allowing two runs.

Adding a win and a loss Thursday puts New York at an even three games back from a playoff spot in the Frontier League’s Eastern Division. New York (45-34) is currently in a position to control their own destiny, with 14 of its remaining 17 games scheduled against teams ahead of them in the standings.
