(POMONA, NY) – The Rockland Boulders dominant season was further solidified when Joe Maloney was named the Can-Am League’s Player of the Year, as announced by the league on Saturday afternoon. This is the fifth league honor for Maloney this season after winning Player of the Week three times and being named Player of the Month in June.

An outfielder and a catcher, Maloney’s offensive prowess saw him battle for all three triple-crown categories. Heading into the final three games of the season, the 25-year-old is second in the league in batting average (.334), and runs batted in (78), while sitting tied for third in home runs (13). Of his 118 hits, 49 have gone for extra bases, giving him a .550 slugging percentage in 94 total games. Meanwhile, his 55 walks have helped him rank fourth in the league with a .430 on-base percentage.

The second-year Boulder has already etched his name into league history, scoring 88 runs this season, the most by any player in one year. With 31 doubles, he is three shy of tying the league record for that mark and is on pace to shatter the Boulders single-season batting average mark. Maloney has helped lead an offense the Can-Am League has never seen before, setting new highs for doubles (199), runs scored (601), and RBI (552) in a season.

Maloney is just the second player in Boulders history to receive a post-season award after Antone DeJesus was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. This is the first major award in his professional career.

Maloney and the Boulders wrapped up their second straight regular season title and will defend their 2014 Can-Am League Championship when the playoffs begin on September 9. They close out the regular season with a three-game series at Sussex County starting on Saturday, September 5.
