Veteran Lefty Returns to Rockland; Boulders Add Gonzalez

(POMONA, NY) - The Rockland Boulders made a pair of signings today, bringing back starting pitcher Richard Salazar and adding infielder Luis Gonzalez to the roster.

Returning for his third season in Pomona, Salazar has been the Opening Day starter in each of his prior two years with the Boulders, helping lead the squad to it's first Can-Am League title in 2014. Last season he set a new Boulders record with 11 wins, posting a 3.15 earned run average and striking out 100 batters during the regular season, a new career high.

A veteran of 14 professional seasons, the southpaw has also pitched in the Venezuelan Winter League in each of the last five years. He was originally drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 13th round in 2001 and reached Triple-A Norfolk in 2007.

Entering his second season as a professional, Gonzalez played the 2015 season with the Garden State Grays primarily as a third baseman. In 58 games, he hit .265 with 34 runs batted in and four homers. A 5'9" righty, he also saw time at second and first base. A 2013 graduate of Concordia College, Gonzalez was named the Central Athletic Collegiate Conference Player of the Year in his senior season, hitting .366 with a .521 on-base percentage. The Carmel, NY native led the conference in hits, doubles, RBI, and total bases during the 2013 campaign.
