Relief Pitcher Rejoins Rockland

(POMONA, NY) - Rockland announced the signing of right-handed reliever Luis Sanz on Tuesday, marking the third season he will pitch with the Boulders.

Entering his 11th year of professional baseball, the 28-year-old joined Rockland in 2014 as a reliever before taking on the role of Closer in 2015. Last year, the righty went 1-2 with 18 saves and a 1.26 earned run average. His 18 saves ranked fourth in the Can-Am in 2015 and gave 20 for his Boulders career, third most in franchise history.

Originally signed out of Venezuela by the Detroit Tigers in 2006, Sanz spent seven years in their minor league system, reaching Advanced-A ball in 2012. The following year he appeared 47 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates Double-A affiliate in Altoona. He has also pitched with Caracas of the Venezuelan Winter League in each of the last seven years.
