Rockland & Ottawa Complete Deal for Outfielder

(POMONA, NY) - Montville, New Jersey native Mike Schwartz was acquired by the Rockland Boulders today in a trade with the Ottawa Champions for cash considerations and a player to be named later.

"Picking up a power bat in the OF was a must for us," said Boulders Manager, Jamie Keefe. "He's got big time, left-handed pop and when a good hitter like him becomes available you have to look at it. We're very excited about having him in the middle of our lineup"

A 17th round draft pick of the Chicago White Sox in 2010, Schwartz hit .290 last season for the Champions including five home runs and 49 runs batted in while his 53 walks ranked eighth in the Can-Am last year. The 2015 season was his fourth in independent ball and his sixth professional season overall.

Upon being drafted, the 6'0", 205-pound outfielder/first baseman was assigned to the White Sox's rookie affiliate for the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. He would spend parts of the next three seasons in the Frontier League before being acquired by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs of the Atlantic League for their 2014 playoff run. It was there he teamed with former Boulders player Antone DeJesus and Junior Arrojo.

A 2010 graduate of the University of Tampa, the 28-year-old was a teammate of 2014 Can-Am League Champion Sean Bierman with the Spartans. A two-time Division II All-American, he was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year in 2010 and also boasts the Montville Township high school record for single-season batting average, belting an impressive .583 as a senior.
