Rockland Signs Pitcher and Two Outfielders

POMONA, NY - Continuing to form their 2016 roster, the Rockland Boulders made a trio of moves this week, signing right-handed pitcher David Fischer and outfielders Quentin Davis and Hunter Lockwood.

Gary Dize/Potomac Nationals

Fischer, a 6'5", 175lb. righty, was a three-time draft pick, ultimately signing with the Washington Nationals in 2012 after graduating from the University of Connecticut. He spent three years in their system, reaching Advanced A-ball in 2013. Last season Fischer was limited to just three outings, including one start, for the Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League.

"David is a power pitcher with a power slider and can run it up there," noted Keefe. "We expect big things from him and think he can be a mainstay in our rotation this year."

The older brother of former Boulders pitcher Michael Fischer, the righty was drafted out of Ballston Lake High School by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2008 and again selected in 2011 by the San Francisco Giants after helping lead UCONN to a BIG EAST Championship.

Orem Owlz/MiLB

A prospect of the Angels organization, Quinten Davis joins the Boulders having spent the last four years in their system. Originally drafted in 2012, the 6'1" outfielder played last year at Advanced-A Inland Empire.

"Quinten has played all three outfield positions and can absolutely go get it," raved Keefe. "He is gonna help us really shore things up defensively out there this season."

Davis batted .339 as a sophomore at McClennan Community College in Texas, including a .429 on-base percentage, while also driving in 29 runs. His ability to get on the base paths proved fruitful as he swiped 19 bases that year.

In 2014, he saw time in 36 games for the Orem Owlz, the rookie league affiliate of the Angels. He drove in 19 runs and boasted a .313 on-base percentage.

Hunter Lockwood is expected to be an offensive force for Rockland in 2016 after strong performances each of the last three years in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Last season, the right-handed slugger belted 11 home runs and 42 RBI for Single-A Bowling Green, following a 13 homer, 46 RBI season at Low-A Hudson Valley in 2014.

"Hunter is going to be a big part of the middle of our lineup," Keefe explained. "Over my three years our offense has had great success and we expect the same from him. He's also very athletic and will play great defense for us."

Lockwood was drafted by the Rays in the 2013 MLB draft out of Weatherford College in Texas. He was also selected out of high school in 2011 by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 17th round.
