National Anti-Bullying Organization Joins Rockland’s Educational Efforts

(POMONA, NY) – The Rockland Boulders have entered into a partnership with the national anti-bullying organization Don’t Be A Monster to help increase their “Boulders Against Bullying” initiative at select home games this season.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Don’t Be A Monster works with haunted houses throughout the United States to put on bullying prevention assemblies for students in grades 4-10. Their mission is simple: to educate and empower youth to be leaders in their school around diversity, inclusiveness, and show them how to stand up for their friends and peers.

Representatives from the Headless Horseman Hayrides & Haunted Houses, Don't Be A Monster's regional partner in the area, will execute all of the presentations on behalf of the national organization.  Members in attendance are workers from the Headless Horseman and Michael Jublie, co-owner of Headless Horseman, is a Don't Be A Monster board member.

During all three of Rockland’s 2016 “Boulders Against Bullying and Substance Use” games (May 25, June 7, June 8), Don’t Be a Monster will host a special pre-game event for all students in attendance, beginning at 10:00 am each day. Representatives will also be on hand at each game to answer questions from teachers, parents, and students and continue to promote the message of inclusion and diversity throughout the games.

“The Rockland Boulders are a community asset that has assets to share with the community,” said Boulders Team President, Ken Lehner. “It is an honor to partner with Don’t Be A Monster to allow them to incorporate their vital messages into our in-game presentation on our ever popular ‘Boulders Against Bullying and Substance Use’ games.”

The partnership helps grow the Boulders commitment to the community, adding to their “Boulders Against Bullying” agenda which includes assemblies in local schools, attended by players, coaches and BoulderBird.  More than 10,000 students a year have come out to these educational games each season, helping to learn methods of preventing bullying in schools. This season will also see the addition of a new “Anti-Substance Use” message to these special 10:30 am games. During each game, Rockland, along with the Rockland Council on Alcoholism and Other Drug Dependence (RCADD), will help raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of Alcohol and Substance Use.

Special group tickets are still available for schools of all sizes and age groups. For more information about the Boulders “Anti-Bullying and Substance Use” games, or to bring your group out on one of these days, call (845) 364-0009 to speak with a representative.
