Boulders Battle in 10 Innings for Victory On The Road

DeBellis double puts Rockland back on top in a 5-3 victory against Ottawa Champions.

(Ottawa, ON) - After going into extra innings, the Rockland Boulders finally push passed the Champions with a 5-3 win to start off their road trip.  Catcher, Alex DeBellis pulls through with a double to left field scoring LF Mike Schwartz and 1B Jared Schlehuber at the top of the 10th inning.

Randy Hamrick takes the mound for Ottawa and throws a scoreless two innings. At the top of the third, 2B Ray Frias of the Rockland Boulders advances to second base with a shot over the head of CF Sebastian Boucher. Frias then advances to third base on a ball.  Jared McDonald puts out but Frias scores for Rockland to take the lead at 1-0.

Jarret Martin, starting pitcher for the Boulders throws another scoreless inning in the bottom of the third then gives it up in the fourth. 2B Albert Cartwright advances to first after a right field single.  LF Matt Helms advances to first as Cartwright gets out on fielders choice.  Helms then moves up to second on a steal and advances to third on a single by Boucher.  Then, 1B Alexander Malleta making his CanAm League debut drives in Helms with an RBI to put the Champions on the board. (1-1)

In the fifth inning, Ottawa makes a pitching change and calls in Andrew Cooper.  At the bottom of the fifth, Martin is still dealing for the Boulders as he strikes out the side.

With the score now being tied, Rockland fights back as RF Brian Ragira draws a walk off of Cooper.  Schlehuber then steps up and drives him home with his second double of the night.  The Boulders now take the lead back in the sixth at 2-1.

The Champions do not let any Boulders passed in the seventh after a 1,2,3 inning.  When the Boulders take the field, Edgar Valle is now on the mound.  RF Kenny Bryant comes up with a solo home run to tie with Rockland 2-2.  After drawing a walk, and a single, Rockland makes another pithing change and puts in Daniel Carela to get out of the inning.

The rest of the game remained tied at 2-2, and Kevin Perez takes the mound for Ottawa at the top of the tenth inning.  Schwartz leads off and draws a walk.  He then advances to second on a ball thrown to Ragira.  Schlehuber steps up to the plate and is intentionally walked.  With runners on first and second, DeBellis comes up strong with a shot sent out deep to centerfield bringing home both Shwartz and Schlehuber as he remains at second.  Rockland is now back on top at 4-2.  DeBellis advances to third on a single by Frias then comes around and scores on an error moving up the Boulders up to 5-2.

Donnie Joseph closes it up for the Boulders at the bottom of the 10th allowing only one run scored on a wild pitch.  The final score came to 5-3, Rockland.

Jared McDonald continues his on base streak with 72 and Alex DeBellis was the only player to have more than one RBI in tonight’s game.

Tomorrow night, The Boulders continue this series against the Champions at 7:00 pm at Raymond Chabot Grant Thorn
