Boulders Fall to Ottawa Champions in Extras

Boulders battle in extras (again) above the border

(OTTAWA, ON)- In the second game of a three game road stint versus the Ottawa Champions, the Rockland Boulders lost by a score of 8-7 in 11 innings.

Rockland (7-5) opened the game with a 2 run first inning. Jared McDonald led off the game with a walk, furthering his on base streak to an impressive 73 games. He then scored on a wild pitch. Junior Arrojo scored off of a Jared Schlenhuber single later on the inning.

Ottawa responded strongly in the bottom half on the first inning, scoring five runs, on two hits and one error to wipe away the Boulders early lead. Rockland starting pitcher Pat Butler allowed four earned runs.

The Boulders went down one, two, three to start the second inning. Albert Cartwright singled in the bottom of the second for the Champions, and later scored on an error by second baseman Ray Frias, extending Ottawa’s lead to 6-2, after two.

After a scoreless third on both sides, the Boulders came back  strong in the top of the 4th.  Mike Montville advanced to first off of a walk, and advanced to second after a Ray Frias single. Luis Parache, singled up the middle the next at bat to load the bases with Boulders. Jared McDonald walked, brining Montville home. Frias crossed home for the second run of the inning, off a fielders choice by Junior Arrojo. Parache scored the final run of the inning via an error by Ottawa second baseman.

Ottawa went down in order at the bottom of the inning. 6-5 Ottawa after four.

All was quiet, until Rockland evened the score in the seventh inning. Jared McDonald, back on the base path once gain, was brought home by a sizzling triple hit by Tyler Clark.

The score remained tied through nine, and for the second straight game, the Boulders and Champions were headed to extras.  

Finally, in the top of the eleventh inning, the Boulders took the lead after a Junior Arrojo run.

Kenny Bryant scord in the bottom of the 11th by an RBI single by Robert Garza. Garza came around for the game winning run and led Ottawa to victory by a final  score of 8-7.

After two straight games that went to extras, the Boulders will play the final game of the series versus Ottawa tomorrow June 1st, at 7:00pm, before returning to Pomona for a seven game home stay.
