McDonald's on-base streak also snapped in the loss

POMONA, NEW YORK- The Rockland Boulders couldn’t get anything going offensively against the Quebec Capitales, as they dropped the second game of their four game set, 4-0 on Military Appreciation Night at Palisades Credit Union Park.

The Boulders (9-6) started Derek Fischer who struggled right from the beginning of the game.  He stranded two runners in scoring position in the first, but wasn’t able to work out of jams in the second and third innings unscathed. In the second, Fischer (0-1) loaded up the bases with no outs, but was able to come out of the frame only allowing two runs after a single by Roel Santos. The Caps would plate another run in the third off of a sacrifice fly.

Alex Gouin came in the fourth inning and stabilized the situation, mowing through Quebec’s potent lineup, throwing five shutout innings, keeping Rockland in the game. Donnie Joseph closed out the game in the ninth.

Rockland threatened a few times offensively in the game. In the fourth inning, they had a runner in scoring position, but the treat was extinguished when Mike Montville struck out looking. Riley Palmer was the first and only Rockland hitter to make it to third base in the bottom of the fifth inning, but again the Boulders couldn’t capitalize to cut into the Quebec lead.

The Capitales (8-7) countered with former Boulder Nate Roe who absolutely dominated his former team. In 6.2 innings, Roe (2-0) pitched three-hit ball, not allowing Rockland to plate a run. He only allowed one runner past second base during his time on the hill, while also striking out five.

Jordan Mills and Jon Fitzsimmons combined for 2.1 shutout innings on three strikeouts, slamming the door shut on Rockland after a dominating start by Roe.

Quebec was able to tack on an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning off of Joseph on a Jordan Lennerton RBI single. With the victory, Quebec regained the edge in the season series between the two squads, as they are now 3-2 when playing the Boulders.

Jared McDonald also had his minor league record 75 game on-base streak snapped, as he went 0-4 on the night.

The Boulders continue their four game weekend series with Quebec on Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. It will be game three of their seven game home stand.
