Boulders Dominate Aigles to Extend Series Lead

Jared Schlehuber records six RBI’s in 14-4 win against Trois Rivieres Aigles.

(POMONA, NY) – The Rockland Boulders (11-7) extended their lead in the series against the Trois Rivieres Aigles (3-15) off of dominant performances by Jared Schlehuber and pitcher Richard Salazar.

Salazar opened his pitching game with a swinging strikeout while the next batter for Trois Rivieres popped out. Matteo struck first for Trois Rivieres with a home run to right field in the top of the first inning.

Up first for the Boulders was Jared McDonald who was walked by Ryan Bollinger, Bollinger’s fourth walk of the season. Junior Arrojo stole his league-leading eighth base of the season in the bottom of the first inning as well. Jared Schlehuber opened the scoring for the Boulders in the bottom of the first inning with a three-run home run after Marcus Nidiffer became the second Boulder walked by Bollinger in the inning. This was Schlehuber’s third home run of the season.

Salazar ended the second inning with one strikeout after facing five batters. Bollinger had his first 1-2-3 inning of the game as well.

Daniel Mateo stole his fifth base of the season in the top of the third inning. Salazar’s consistency continued into the third inning with two straight strikeouts facing five batters. McDonald continued the scoring for the Boulders in the bottom of the third inning, scoring a run off of a hit by Schlehuber. DeBellis jumped on the scoring train too, hitting a double with Schlehuber and Nidiffer scoring on the play. The third inning ended with the Boulders up 6-1.

Salazar retired three straight batters in the top of the fourth inning as Trois Rivieres scoring drought continued.  Bollinger struck out his first two batters of the inning as well.

Delvis Morales stole second base for Trois Rivieres, his sixth of the season, in the top of a quiet fifth inning for the visiting team. Schlehuber continued his scoring run with his second double of the game, extending the Boulders lead to six runs with Nidiffer scoring. Bollinger retired after facing 27 batters.

Trois Rivieres’ scoring drought ended in the top of the sixth inning Eric Grabe scoring off of a single hit by Yexion Ruiz. Salazar retired after pitching six and 2/3innings after his left hand was grazed by a hit with Edgar Valle replacing him.

Mike Montville further extended the Boulders lead in the bottom of an eventful sixth inning off of a sacrifice fly by McDonald. Rockland scored seven runs in the sixth inning including RBIs by DeBellis, Schlehuber, McDonald, Fransoso and Palmer.

Mateo made it 14-3 in the top of the seventh inning off of a single by Bobby Coyle. Kori Melo brought Trois Rivieres within ten with Coyle scoring off of his single.

Daniel Carela struck out his first three straight batters in the top of the eighth inning after subbing for Valle. Dennis Neal, who subbed for Schonfield in the sixth inning recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the eighth as well.
