Rockland wins back-to-back games against the Miners in doubleheader

(Pomona, NY) – The offense for the Boulders came to life on Tuesday. Thanks to a 5-2 win over the Sussex County Miners, the team advances to 16-9 on the season.

The right fielder for the Boulders, Brenden Webb, took a home run away from Ryan Dent early on in the first. Bo Budkevics (4-1) helped himself to a quick 1-2-3 inning.

Smooth sailing continued for the Boulders into the bottom of the first. Marcus Nidiffer, the catcher in Game 1 and the DH in Game 2, blasted one deep to right center field. The at-bat produced his second home run of the day, and his fifth in 2016. Junior Arrojo, who had his 14th stolen base of the season, and Mike Schwartz also came in to score, making it 3-0.

Alex DeBellis came in to score in the second, after a single to right field. The extra insurance run bumped up the Boulders’ lead to 4-0. He scored again in the fourth after a balk issued by Michael Suk (3-2), making it 5-0. Sussex County leads the league in balks with 4.

Although Suk was rattled from the start, he pushed his way through 6.0 IP. The first baseman for Sussex, Chris Jacobs, got his team on the board in the fifth. He hit a single that brought in two, Dominique Taylor and John Brucker. The score was 5-2, and would stay that way.

Sussex had a winning record heading into the doubleheader, but fall to 12-13. Daniel Carela picked up the save, his first of the season.

The Boulders and the Miners will face each other again tomorrow at 6:30pm. Tickets are available by visiting the box office, www.RocklandBoulders.com, or by calling (845) 364-0009.
