Hernandez, Wallenda and Tiant Highlight Historic Weekend

(POMONA, NY) – This weekend, the world comes to Rockland County when the Rockland Boulders host the Cuban National Team in a historic weekend match-up at Palisades Credit Union Park.

Large crowds are expected at ALL three games and fans are encouraged to arrive as early as possible to ensure they don't miss any of the action!

The festivities will begin Friday night  when former Cuban National star, and four-time World Series Champion, Orlando “El Duque” Hernandez throws out the first pitch before the 7pm contest.

“Eat and drink in the company of one of, if not the greatest player to ever come out of Cuba and make a major impact in the Major Leagues,” said Ken Lehner, Boulders Team President.  “It is truly an honor to have the Cuban National Team grace the field at Palisades Credit Union Park and adding El Duque is the icing on the cake.”

“I am very excited to be a part of this historic weekend of baseball,” said Hernandez. “An opportunity to showcase the talent of Cuban baseball players to the fans in the Lower Hudson Valley and Northern New Jersey, as well as a chance to return to a region where I was fortunate enough to win three World Series titles is something I’m looking forward to very much.”

The weekend  continues on Saturday when world renown aerialist and daredevil Nik Wallenda performs a record setting death-defying “skywalk” more the  125 feet above Palisades Credit Union Park playing surface before the 6:30 game.  Wallenda will attempt the break the world record for the Highest First pitch.  The pre-game party begins at 4:30 and the game will be followed by New York’s best fireworks show and a post-game party in the Bud Light Bridge Bar.  Extra ticket charges apply.

The series concludes Sunday for Hispanic Heritage Day at 2pm when former major league great Luis Tiant throws out the first pitch.  Tiant also threw out the first pitch this past February when the Tampa Bay Rays visited Havana and played this same Cuban National team. A special meet-and-greet ticket package is available for Tiant, a three-time MLB.  Sundays celebration will also feature pre-game and post game Cuban bands, a parade of flags and kids festivities and more.

Large crowds are expected for each game. Fans are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance online at www.rocklandboulders.com and arrive early for each game.  Parking is $5 in ballparks lots.  Free off-site parking is expected to be available.
