Edgar Valle returns, McKenna with a big night in loss

LITTLE FALLS, NJ- The Rockland Boulders played catchup seemingly all game, trying to rally several times, but they ultimately fell short to New Jersey on the road, losing 9-8 at Yogi Berra Stadium.
Rockland (20-12) started David Fischer (2-2) who struggled to control the game, giving up three runs leading up to the sixth inning. The Jackals’ Johnny Bladel hit a solo shot in the second, as well as knocking in another run with a single in the fourth.
Rockland was able to make up ground each time New Jersey struck, equalizing the score in the second, as well as in the top of the sixth, making it 3-3 going into the bottom half. That was where the wheels fell off for Rockland. Fischer would start the inning, but not record an out. It took Daniel Carela and Donnie Joseph each to come in to finish off the Jackals in the inning. New Jersey scored six runs on four walks, two hit batsmen, and two hits.
The Boulders would again strike back in the eighth, when they scored five runs of their own. Pat McKenna struck his Can-Am single game record tying second triple of the night and would later come around to score. McKenna finished with an impressive 4-5 line, with two doubles, two triples, three runs scored and one RBI. The five runs put Rockland within one run of the Jackals (21-11).
Edgar Valle, fresh off of a stint on the disabled list, set the Jackals down in his two innings of work. In the top of the ninth, the Boulders offense however, fell short of the comeback. McKenna led off with his second double, but Jackals closer Fernando Cruz struck out the next three batters to finish the game.
With the loss, the Boulders fall down to third place in the league standings behind New Jersey and Quebec.
The Boulders will finish out their three game set against New Jersey Thursday night at Yogi Berra Stadium, with the first pitch scheduled for 7 P.M.
