Wallenda Meets with Media After World Record Pitch

(POMONA, NY) – World-renowned aerialist Nik Wallenda notched his 11th Guinness World Record prior to the Rockland Boulders game against the Cuban National Team on Saturday night at Palisades Credit Union Park. The skywalk included throwing out the ceremonial first pitch from over 120 feet in the air, a new Guinness World Record.

“I’ve always wanted to recreate some of the walks my great-grandfather did,” Wallenda said in a press conference, remembering Karl Wallenda who once walked across Shea Stadium in 1970. “I’ve never walked across a ballpark before and to add another world record to it makes it that much more special.”

Wallenda, who performs without a safety net or harness, traversed Palisades Credit Union Park before tossing two balls from the wire to Rockland Boulders Manager, Jamie Keefe and catcher, Marcus Nidiffer. Both were record breaking feats for the man who already held 10 Guinness World Records.

“I wanted one and the team wanted one as well. But I kept the one that was the strike,” Wallenda joked.

The historic walk was completed in just over 14 minutes in front of a crowd of more 5,000 fans. As he walked, Wallenda spoke to the crowd, discussing his career, training, and the unique connection his family had to Cuba.

“In 1927, John Ringling made a trip to Cuba to hear about this family performing incredible acrobatic feats,” Wallenda explained to the crowd. “When he arrived to where my family was performing, the producer told them they had the night off. However, Mr. Ringling was such a genius that he snuck back in the next night, saw my great-grandfather and family, and signed them to bring them to the United States.”

After his record-breaking walk, the Cuban National Team went on to defeat Rockland 10-6 for their second straight win against the Boulders.
