AUGUSTA, NJ- The Boulders threatened often, but the Miners were able to spoil Mike Adams’ career debut, toppling Rockland in the second game of a doubleheader, 2-1 at Skylands Stadium. 
    After winning the first game 9-4, which was just a continuation of the game last night that was suspended due to rain, the Boulders looked to sweep their second doubleheader of the year against the Miners. Rockland started Mike Adams in his first career professional appearance after graduating from Wagner College just last month. Adams (0-1) pitched well in his first start in the red, white, and blue, logging four and two thirds innings with only one earned run and two strikeouts. 
    The rookie right-hander was tagged for his first career run in the first, when former Boulder Steve Nyisztor drove in Carl Thomore with an RBI single. Another run would come in the second inning, after Nick Giarraputo reached on a very costly error by Junior Arrojo. After Adams fought back to get the next two batters out, Thomore stroked an RBI single to drive in the run, giving Sussex a two run lead. Thomore finished the game 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI. 
    Pat Butler would come in to finish the fifth, and pitch another inning, recording one and a third on the night of shutout ball. He faced six batters and only allowed one hit. 
    On the offensive side, Rockland (21-17) wasn’t able to replicate their success from earlier in the game, mustering up only one run. They had runners in scoring position in three of the first four innings, but weren’t able to get anything across until the fifth. There, Mike Fransoso ripped a leadoff triple, and was knocked in by a Mike Montville groundout. 
    In the sixth, the Boulders threatened again, loading up the bases with only one out. It was there that Miners starter Ray Hanson (2-4) was removed in favor of Stone Speer who would strike out Fransoso. After that, Sussex (14-24) would send out closer Josh Wood who forced Montville to fly out, ending the threat. 
Wood shut down another late threat in the bottom of the ninth, when he got Ed Charlton to strike out swinging with runners on the corners, after Charlton had pinch ran for Marcus Nidiffer the inning prior. 
    The rubber game of the Boulders three game set against the Miners will be Thursday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7 P.M.
