Alex Gouin throws eight shutout innings, helping the Boulders take series opener

(Pomona, NY) – Rain could not stop the Aigles from experiencing the FunShine on their second visit of the year to Palisades Credit Union Park.

Alex Gouin (3-1) put up impressive numbers during his outing Friday night. He picked up his third win after facing 30 batters, striking out five over eight innings.

Rockland got on the board first when the second baseman, Pat McKenna, hit a 2-run homer to left field in the bottom of the second inning. Jared Schlehuber also came in to score on the at-bat. Boulders led it 2-0.

The Aigles threatened in the fourth inning. Jared Schlehuber had a rough outing at first base, committing an error that allowed Danny Richar and Daniel Mateo, the DH and third baseman, to advance to first and third respectively. Despite having two on with one out, Trois-Rivieres could not make anything happen.

The Boulders added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Guillaume Blanchette gave up a double to the rookie, Logan Spurlin, who went 2-2 on the day after subbing in for Mike Fransoso. Junior Arrojo, who led off the inning with a walk, shuffled on down to third.

Schlehuber redeemed himself during his third at-bat. He hit an RBI single up the middle in the sixth, increasing the Boulders’ lead to 3-0. It was his 28th of the season. Arrojo came in to score.

Trois-Rivieres opted for a pitching change before the inning was over. Scott Kuzminsky relieved Blanchette after 5.1 IP. He faced 24 batters, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out four. He moves to 0-1, his first decision in four appearances.

The righty, Hector Nelo, came in to pitch the ninth. He gave up a double to Joey Miller, the fourth batter he faced. Connor Crane came in to score, cutting the Boulders’ lead down to 3-1 and taking away the shutout. However, Nelo managed to pick up his eighth save of the season.

The Boulders (23-17) and the Aigles (10-29) will face each other again tomorrow at 6:30pm. Tickets are available by visiting the box office, www.RocklandBoulders.com, or by calling (845) 364-0009.
