Pitcher Moves On to Affiliated Ball

(POMONA, NY) – Rockland Boulders pitcher Alex Gouin had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks and has been assigned to the Short-Season Hillsboro Hops affiliate. The move was made on Sunday, prior to Rockland’s walk-off 4-3 win over Trois-Rivieres at Palisades Credit Union Park.

Gouin, who joined the team during the 2015 season, was 3-1 with a 3.41 ERA this season. The Cuban-born pitcher tossed eight shutout innings in his last outing against Les Aigles on Friday night. Since joining the team last year, the 5’11” righty holds an 11-5 overall mark with the Boulders, including a 3.60 ERA.

A graduate of the University of Hartford, Gouin is the seventh player to be signed directly from the Rockland Boulders franchise and the first in 2016. Prior players have included Joe Maloney, Stephen Cardullo, Chris Edmondson, Steve Nyisztor, Joe Donino, and Sean Bierman. He is also the ninth overall player to move on from the Boulders to a Major League organization as both Jon Velasquez and Bridger Hunt reached affiliated ball after their time with Rockland.

The Boulders are currently 25-17, sitting in third place in the Can-Am League. Rockland will attempt to complete a four-game sweep of Trois-Rivieres tonight. The game begins at 5:30pm with a special post-game performance from the Ramsey Wind Symphony Orchestra followed by a Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Hudson Valley Harley Davidson. Fans will be allowed to watch both the orchestra and the fireworks on the field. Great seats are still available by visiting the box office, calling (845) 364-0009 or sliding to www.RocklandBoulders.com.
