Boulders Fall to Quebec in Canada

Despite three double plays, the Boulders are unable to top les Capitales.

(Quebec City, QC) –Despite two near-comebacks, the Boulders dropped their second straight to the Quebec Capitales Wednesday night, 6-4.  Jared McDonald opened the batting game for the Boulders with a single to right field however the team was unable to capitalize. Les Capitales responded with a Jordan Lennerton sacrifice fly to go up one run in the bottom of the first inning.

Bad luck continued with for the Boulders with Quebec’s Jasvir Rakkar recording his first 1-2-3 inning of the game in the top of the second inning. Meanwhile les Capitales continued to roll with Trevor Gretzky and Maxx Tissenbaum recording a RBI single each, extending Quebec’s lead to 3.

After a single by Ed Charlton to put the Boulders on base, the Boulders recorded two straight outs. With Charlton caught stealing second, the inning came to a close. Lennerton opened the bottom of the third inning with a home run for Quebec however the Boulders were able to get back into the game, recording a double play to end the inning.

At bat, the Boulder’s momentum continued, with two straight singles and a walk loading the bases. Mike Montville and Elvin Soto recorded the Boulders’ first two RBI’s of the game, cutting les Capitales’ lead to half in the top of the fourth. The Boulders’ defensive prowess continued into the bottom of the inning as well, recording their third double play of the game. With two outs, les Capitales were able to record one run to extend their lead off of a single by Marcus Kencht.

The Boulders continued to chisel at the lead with Marcus Nidiffer recording his first RBI of the game to bring the Boulders back within two. Bo Budkevics retired in the bottom of the fifth inning with Edgar Valle taking over at the mound. Budkevics ended his night with five strikeouts, and five walks, facing 23 batters. Les Capitales were shut out for the first inning of the night in the bottom of the fifth as well.

The Boulders went 1-2-3 for the second time in the top of the sixth inning, as did les Capitales.

Jared McDonald brought the Boulders back to life in the top of the seventh inning, recording a double, however the team was again unable to capitalize. Meanwhile, Rakkar retired for the night after facing 26 batters, striking out 6 and walking 5 with Sheldon McDonald taking over. In the bottom of the seventh inning, les Capitales began to run away from the Boulders, with Knecht scoring off of a wild pitch to make the score 6-3.

Ed Charlton brought the Boulders back within two in the top of the ninth inning, scoring a home run, his first in a Boulders Uniform but it wasn’t enough to overturn les Capitales.
