(QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC) – The Rockland Boulders scored six combined runs in the first two innings, en route to an 8-1 win at Quebec on Thursday night. For Rockland (27-19), the win snapped a brief two-game slide, salvaging the final game of the series with Les Capitales (28-16). The Boulders also moved back into third place in the Can-Am after the New Jersey Jackals’ walk-off win over Ottawa.

It started early for the Boulders as they scored four runs in the first inning, including a three-run homerun from Jared Schlehuber off Quebec starting pitcher Nathaniel Roe. They then added two more runs in the top of the second on a Mike Fransoso, making it a 6-0 Rockland lead. That proved to be more than enough for starting pitcher Markus Solbach, as he scattered seven hits and allowed just one unearned run in six innings of work.

The lone run he allowed came in the bottom of the second innings as Jonathan Malo singled home Yeicok Calderon, who reached on an error by Schlehuber to lead off the frame. Solbach then settled down over the final four innings of his outing, recording six strikeouts in the process. Relief pitcher Daniel Carela also posted a pair of shutout innings while Hector Nelo closed the door in the ninth, striking out the final two batters of the game.

Rockland was able to add to their lead in the fourth on another Fransoso single, before tacking on their final run in the fifth when Junior Arrojo worked a bases loaded walk for an 8-1 advantage. Roe was charged with the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits and six walks, in just four innings.

Solbach picked up the win, his sixth of the season, striking out six batters in the process. Both Fransoso and Schlehuber paced the offense with three RBI’s each. Rockland now heads to Trois-Rivieres for a three-game. The Boulders are 7-0 this year against Les Aigles.
