(POMONA, NY) – Rockland Boulders starting pitcher Markus Solbach had his contract purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks the team announced on Friday. The righty becomes the second Rockland player to join the Diamondbacks this year, following fellow pitcher Alex Gouin last weekend.

The 6’5” German ace will head to the Visalia Rawhide, Arizona’s Advanced A-Ball affiliate, which plays in the California League. In 10 starts with the Boulders, Solbach was 6-2 with a 2.43 earned run average. His six wins tied for the league high, while his ERA was second among Can-Am pitchers since the season began. Solbach also had 52 strikeouts on the year, ranking third in the league in that category.

This will be the 24 year-old’s second stint with the Diamonbacks, splitting last year between Visalia and Single-A Kane County. In 26 combined appearances he was 11-6 with a 3.94 ERA, including 73 total strikeouts.

Solbach becomes the 10th former Boulders player to reach affiliated ball, and the eighth to move on straight from Rockland. The Boulders were 7-3 this year when Solbach was on the hill.
