Boulders early at-bats result in a 3-1 victory over the Champions

(Ottawa, ON) – The Boulders kicked off the third series of the season against the Champions with a win on Friday night. Starting pitcher, Mike Adams, picked up his third win as a Boulder while Austin Chrismon got the loss.

Rockland took an early lead in the top of the second inning, 2-0. Jared Schlehuber came in to score the first run of the night on a Mike Montville single. The third baseman, Mike Fransoso, also came in to score after a sac fly to center field from Devin Harris.

Ottawa threatened to close the gap in the third inning, but to no avail. After giving up a single and a double to the number nine and leadoff hitters, Daniel Grauer and Albert Cartwright, Mike Adams retired the next three batters. He moves to 3-1 on the season.

The Boulders tacked on another run in the top of the fourth inning, increasing their lead to 3-0. Fransoso came in to score on a sac fly to left field off the bat of the catcher, Elvin Soto. Since joining the team earlier this month, Soto has scored 11 runs and has 3 RBI in just 15 games.

The Champions got on the board in the fourth, cutting the Boulders’ lead down to 3-1. Grauer, who reached base every time on the night, advanced to first on a fielder’s choice. The right fielder, Kenny Bryant, came in to score on the at-bat.

Soto contributed defensively as well, catching runners on an attempt to steal second base. Daniel Bick was put away in the fifth for out number 1, while Matt Helms was sent packing for out number 3 in the sixth.

Adams exited the game after going for 6.1 solid innings. He faced 29 batters, giving up only one run on five hits. The righty, Edgar Valle, took over the bump until the ninth when Hector Nelo would come in and pick up the save.

Despite giving up three runs, all of them earned, Chrismon’s outing was nothing short of commendable. He pitched a complete game, but fell into his rhythm too late and moves to 3-3. The damage done in the first few innings was enough to give Rockland the edge over the Champions.

The Boulders (32-21) and the Champions (29-25) will play again tomorrow night at 7pm, in Ottawa.
