(POMONA, NY)– The Rockland Boulders trailed early on and a late comeback effort was not enough as their six game win streak was snapped on Wednesday afternoon when they dropped their second game of the three game series (10-2) to the Sussex County Miners. 

Sussex came alive early in the top of the second when they threatened with runners on the corners and only one out.  Alex DeBellis was soon able to score on an RBI single from Nate Irving giving the Miners a 1-0 lead.

Four balls from Boulders pitcher, Luis Sanz, allowed Dustin Lawley to walk to first and Nick Giarraputo was then able to score from third for the Miners to make it 2-0. 

The Boulders began to quickly fall behind as Alex DeBellis continued to carry the Miners, crushing a grand slam onto the left field concourse in the top of the third, increasing the Sussex lead to a huge 6-0. 

The Miners tacked on another run in the fourth when Chris Jacobs ripped a single to center field, scoring Jay Austin from second to make it 7-0. 

In a comeback fashion, an RBI single from Jared McDonald, scored Elvin Soto from third, finally putting the Boulders on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth. However, the Miners lead began to skyrocket in the seventh when they brought home two more runs to make it 9-1.

Junior Arrojo who was just one away from tying Jared McDonald’s record at 75 consecutive games reaching base safely came up short in the eighth inning, striking out during his last at-bat to break his streak at 74.

Montville attempted to save the day for the Boulders in the ninth, slamming his seventh home run of the season, a solo shot into the left field bleachers, however this attempt at a comeback was too late and the Boulders were defeated by the Miners 10-2. 

The Rockland Boulders will travel to Skylands Stadium tomorrow, July 21st, as they continue their series against the Sussex County Miners. This will be their third and final game of the series against the Miners with the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.
