Boulders Win 11-0 On Irish Heritage Night

BOULDERS WIN PUTS TO END LOSING STREAK

The Rockland Boulders (35-24) won the middle game of their three game series against the Ottawa Champions (32-29) Saturday night 11-0 behind a strong start by Joe Ravert to end a three game losing streak.

The Boulders took an early lead in the bottom of the second. After Devin Harris drew a one out walk, first baseman Elvin Soto recorded an RBI double to give the Boulders a 1-0 lead. Pat McKenna would knock in Soto with a single to make it 2-0. The Boulders would tack on two more in bottom of the third after a two run RBI double by Devin Harris drove in Jared Schlehuber and Mike Montville to make it 4-0.

The Ottawa Champions attempted to cut the deficit in the top of the fifth. Daniel Bick started with a leadoff double. T.J. Wharton followed with a single to have runners on the corners with no one out. Pitcher Joe Ravert would get the next two hitters Albert Cartwright and Matt Helms to hit infield pop outs. Ravert would then walk Sebastian Boucher to load the bases. Ravert would than get Derrick Pyles to ground into a fielder’s choice to end the inning and escape further trouble.

The score remained 4-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth. Marcus Nidiffer was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Jared Schlehuber walked to make it runners on first and second nobody out. After Mike Montville lined out to third, Devin Harris hit a double to drive in Marcus Nidiffer to make 5-0 Boulders, Jared Schlehuber advanced to third on the play. Following a pitching change that saw Andrew Cooper replace Laetten Galbraith for the Champions, Elvin Soto crushed a three run home run, his first as a Boulder. They led 8-0 after five innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, with one out Junior Arrojo walked. The next hitter Mike Fransoso was hit by a pitch. Marcus Nidiffer hit an RBI double to drive in Arrojo and Fransoso moved to third. With Jared Schlehuber at bat, a wild pitch allowed Mike Fransoso. With the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly RBI from Devin Harris scored Marcus Nidiffer to make it 11-0 Boulders.

For Ravert, he picked up his first win in a Boulders uniform. He pitched six innings allowing no runs on five hits, three walks and five strikeouts. Edgar Valle pitched the final three innings for the Boulders allowing just two hits, walking three and striking out one. Devin Harris and Elvin Soto each collected four RBI’s in the game.
