BOULDERS SNAP 3-GAME WIN STREAK WITH LOSS TO MINERS

(POMONA, NY)– An early 2-run homer from Soto was not enough for the Boulders on Wednesday afternoon as they dropped the game (9-3) to the Miners.

The Boulders took an early 2-0 lead in the second when Elvin Soto slammed a 2-run homer into the left field bleachers during his first at-bat of the game. This is Soto’s second home run with the Rockland Boulders.

The Miners cut the Boulders lead in half in the third with a sacrifice fly from Nick Giarraputo to score Chris Chiaradio to make it 2-1.

The Miners continued to strive as former Boulder, Alex DeBellis, crushed a solo shot homer into deep right field in the fourth to tie the game up at two. This is DeBellis’s third home run with the Miners, making this his second home run within the last two games.

Sussex took the lead in the fifth after an RBI double from Giarraputo scored Brenden Webb to give them a 3-2 lead. Soon after this Giarraputo was able to bring in another run for Sussex to extend their lead to 4-2.

Daniel Carela came in on relief for Luis Sanz in the sixth. Sanz went six innings striking out four Miners and walking five.

Boulders threatened in the sixth when Soto dropped a sacrifice bunt down the first base line and was able to beat the Miners first baseman Giarraputo to first,  loading up the bases for the Boulders with no outs. However the Boulders were unable to capitalize as Miners pitcher Michael Suk, struck out the next three Boulders ending the inning and leaving the bases loaded.

The Miners scored two more runs in the seventh to make it 7-2, and a solo shot homer from Webb in the eighth extended their lead to 8-3. Webb is the second former Boulder to hit a homerun today, making this his 7th of the season.

The Miners were able to hold onto their lead throughout the remainder of the game after tacking on another run in the eighth, defeating the Boulders (9-3).

The Rockland Boulders will travel to Yogi Berra Stadium in New Jersey tomorrow, July 28th, to start a 3-game series against the New Jersey Jackals where they will battle keep their first place spot in the Can-Am League.
