Boulders Catcher Competes in American Association Showcase

(ST. PAUL, MINN.) - Rockland Boulders catcher Marcus Nidiffer reached the semifinals of the 2016 American Association Home Run Derby at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minnesota on Monday night. Despite his effort, Nidiffer came up just short of the finals, falling to eventual champion Curt Smith of Lincoln.

The Boulders captain blasted five homers in the first round, one of the four highest totals in the opening round, and was seeded fourth in the semifinals. He went up against Curt Smith who led all hitters with 10 dingers in the opening round.

After posting three homers in the semis, and with Smith down to his final out, it looked as if Nidiffer would advance to the Championship round. However, the Laredo DH went yard in bonus time, giving him four home runs and a walk-off win over Nidiffer. Smith would go on to defeat St. Paul's Alonzo Harris to win the title.

Nidiffer, along with teammate Junior Arrojo and manager Jamie Keefe, will all take part in the American Association All-Star Game on Tuesday night. They will represent the Can-Am League as part of the South team in a showcase that will be televised on Fox Sports North, or online at www.AmericanAssociationBaseball.tv.
