(Quebec City, QC) – Due to rain late in the game, the matchup was suspended Friday night. David Fischer and Sheldon McDonald got the starts.
Rockland took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After hitting a double, his thirteenth of the season, Junior Arrojo came in to score on a Mike Fransoso RBI single.
In the second, the Boulders tacked on a pair to make it 3-0. After drawing himself a walk, Pat McKenna scored on a double down the first base line off the bat of Mike Montville. Soon after, Montville came in thanks to a single from the center fielder, Quinnton Mack.
After a couple of shutout innings, Rockland added to their lead in the top of the fifth. Arrojo hit a leadoff triple to left center, placing him within easy scoring position for the next batter. Fransoso came to the plate and belted his second RBI single of the night, making it 4-0 Boulders.
The Capitales got on the board in the bottom of the inning, cutting Rockland’s lead in half. Yurisbel Gracial scored on a Roel Santos at-bat, who was put away for out number two. The second baseman, Jonathan Malo, hit an RBI double to bring in Lachlan Fontaine. Quebec still trailed, 4-2.
Fischer’s night was done after 5.0IP. He gave up two runs on two hits, striking out six. The righty, Daniel Carela, took over the mound.
Quebec put up another run in the sixth inning, making it 4-3. Gracial hit an RBI single, bringing in Jordan Lennerton. The Boulders opted for a pitching change. Donnie Joseph emerged from the bullpen to retire the side.
Ryan Leach came in to pitch for the Capitales in the eighth. McDonald gave up four runs on eight hits, and struck out six during his outing.
The game was all knotted up at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning. Hector Nelo came in and gave up a single to Lennerton. Malo, the tying run, came in to score.
After an on-again, off-again rain delay the Boulders got the go-ahead run in extra innings. With bases loaded in the top of the tenth, Devin Harris hit a sac fly off of Mark Smyth. Arrojo came in to score for the third and final time of the night. The score was 5-4, before the rain would pick up again and force the game to be suspended.
The Boulders (38-30) and the Capitales (39-28) will face each other again tomorrow night at 6pm. No word yet on when Friday night’s game will resume.
